The European Commission Supports Safe, Resilient, and Smart Mobility

The European Commission continues its strategic support for the development of sustainable transport through Destination 6: Safe, Resilient and Smart Mobility Services for People and Goods, which is part of Cluster 5 (Climate, Energy and Mobility) under the Horizon Europe programme.

The aim of the projects under this initiative is to build the transport systems of the future — systems that are safe, resilient, digitally connected, zero-emission, and socially inclusive. The focus is placed on the development of automated and cooperative mobility (CCAM), modernisation of transport infrastructure, multimodality, and enhanced safety and inclusion across the entire transport network.

Key challenge topics under this Destination include:

• Development of technologies for automated and connected vehicles, including advanced environment perception and safety systems
• Digital infrastructure and edge AI enabling safer and more efficient real-time traffic management
• Green and zero-emission logistics for last-mile delivery in urban areas
• Resilience of transport infrastructure to climate-related challenges and predictive maintenance
• Safety of cyclists and pedestrians, aiming to reduce serious injuries and promote active mobility
• Use of artificial intelligence for traffic accident prediction and prevention

Projects must be carried out by an international consortium (at least three entities from three different countries) and must address specific sectoral needs. Proposals are evaluated based on excellence, impact, feasibility, and synergies with EU-wide strategies.
